Halls of Residence

The halls of residences of NIT Rourkela aim to provide a homely experience to the boarders by ensuring safety, comfort and nutrition. The campus is fully residential and provides accommodation facility to the students with amenities such as common room, gymnasium, lounge and dining hall with mess. The Chief Warden is the head of the hall management council (HMC). He is assisted in his administrative responsibilities by the Wardens of halls and Coordinating Wardens for maintenance and quality control. Warden is the administrative head of each hostel. Wardens are assisted by Assistant Wardens. Each hall has its own democratically chosen Hall Executive Committee, composed of General Secretary, Maintenance SecretarMess Secretary, Environment Secretary, Cultural Secretary and Games & Sports Secretary. The committee decides the pattern and the pace of life of each Hall. In addition, there are common room bearers, who are available round the clock to take care of the boarders. Some hostels are equipped to accommodate students with physical disabilities.

In the dining hall of the mess, hall boarders take breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner together. They have option to choose vegetarian or non-vegetarian meals. In addition there are day canteens, night canteens and juice centers to cater any boarder’s need. There is stationary shop in each hall. Beauty parlors and tailoring shops are also at service in girls hostels. There are many eateries and various student-friendly shops within the hostel area, so that the boarders need not feel to travel a long distance to get essential items.

Each hall is guarded by security personnel and under surveillance by CC cameras 24×7. There is firefighting arrangements in each hall corridor and common areas. Ambulance is available on call with easy access to emergency contact numbers. The members of HMC respond to any emergency call at any time whenever necessary. Halls are routinely inspected for quality of maintenance and hygiene. Online complaint management system has been provided to the students to address their regular needs such as electricity, water, carpentry, internet, etc. Office of the Chief Warden acts dedicatedly to ensure that upon graduation, NITR hall boarders leave the campus with the most pleasant memories of their lives.
