NIT Rourkela is fully residential and provides accomodation facility to the students with amenities such as a common room, an indoor room, a lounge and a dining hall with mess. The Chief warden is the head of the hostel organisation. He is assisted in his administrative responsibilities by the Wardens. Warden is the administrative head of each hostel. Wardens are assisted by Assistant Wardens. Each hostel have their own Hall Working Committees. The Working Committees are composed of General Secretary, Maintenance Secretary, Mess Secretary, Environment Secretary, Cultural Secretary and Games & Sports Secretary. The committee decides the pattern and the pace of life of each Hall.

Special facilities available in halls of residence for students with disabilities

• Ramps in all halls of residence
• Easy access toilets for boarders with disabilities.
• In some hostels few rooms are reserved for physically challenged boarders. These rooms are attached with toilet and bathroom. These rooms are kept near the main entrance of the hall for easy access by the physically challenged boarders.
• 24 x 7 support is being provided by the CRBs to the physically challenged boarders. In certain cases room service is also available such as getting meals in time at their doorstep.
• Some cases family accommodation to the physically challenged boarders are provided considering the type and percentage of disabilities with due approval of the Director.
