NIT Rourkela is situated at the foothill of a mineral rich region and its rocky soil makes the task of a planned green garden the challenging one. To execute this task in the best possible manner,Lawn and Garden committee was constituted in 2003. This committee looks after and maintains the vegetation and flora of the institute campus. The end-work is executed by the workers under various contractors, who in turn are selected through tendering processes. With the consistent effort of the administration and the L&G committees, the NIT campus is administered as one of the best lawn and garden in the city.

The health centre at NIT Rourkela caters for the medical needs of all students, faculties, staffs, and dependents serving NIT Rourkela. The health center serves the fraternity with three regular doctors. There is a facility of an ambulance to attend to any emergencies. Some visiting doctors (specialist) like Medicine, Gynecologist, Cardiologist, Pediatrics are coming to the health center in week days. The health centre timings: 09.00 hr to 12.00 noon (forenoon) and 16.00 hr to 19.00 hr (forenoon). The health center refers patients to nearby and far located hospitals as and when requirement arises and the institute has tie up with multiple premier hospitals across the country. The health center has a medical store attached that runs 24 x 7 catering to the medical needs of the campus.
