Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is inspired by the vision of transformational change in rural development processes by leveraging knowledge institutions to help build the architecture of an Inclusive India.

Mission

The Mission of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is to enable higher educational institutions to work with the people of rural India in identifying development challenges and evolving appropriate solutions for accelerating sustainable growth. It also aims to create a virtuous cycle between society and an inclusive academic system by providing knowledge and practices for emerging professions and to upgrade the capabilities of both the public and the private sectors in responding to the development needs of rural India.

UBA@NIT Rourkela

NIT Rourkela is participating actively targets to use the expertise available in the institute to improve the quality of rural life through innovative and affordable technological interventions. Some of the issues to be addressed in the first phase are improvement in skill development for unemployed youth, quality of school education, agriculture, sanitation, health care, awareness towards digital India, renewable energy use, basic infrastructure, plantation and self-reliance.

About Us

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, a flagship national program of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India and IIT Delhi has been designated to function as lead and coordinating organization for UBA activities in the country. Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is inspired by the vision of transformational change in rural development processes by leveraging knowledge institutions to help build the architecture of an Inclusive India. The mission of this programme is to activate the processes, which connect institution of higher learning with the people of rural India to accelerate the process of development and growth of rural India through active participation and appropriate technologies for a sustainable tomorrow by providing the required knowledge and skill for a better unequal India. It also gives a right platform to share the actual knowledge gained technical institutions to the field as required, mainly for rural areas. This transformation can be achieved through a motivated team who are energetic, knowledgeable and have complete orientation to fulfil the goal of this programme. Further, this process will create an honest cycle between the society and an inclusive institute of higher learning by providing the technical knowhow and practices for emerging livelihood mission that will upgrade the capabilities of rural mass.

Grama Sabha Meeting at Jamsera

The advantages of using vermicompost to improve the soil fertility and promote sustainable agriculture was discussed by UBA members with the villagers on the eve of Republic day. Vermicompost beds were distributed to the Panchayat office after demonstrating its usage protocols.

UBA team under the supervision of Dr. Angana Sarkar and Dr. Kasturi Dutta discussed the advantages of organic farming at Jhirpani. 20 households were incubated with organic fertilizers to reduce the negative impacts of chemical fertilizers and to make them self-sufficient by growing vegetables to meet their daily needs.


1st Regional Orientation Workshop

UBA NIT Rourkela as regional coordinating centre organized an orientation programme to sensitize the participating institutes of Odisha. Panel discussion to improve the standard of living of people in the adopted villages was carried out.


Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Awareness Programme

UBA team demonstrated essential aspects of sanitation and hygienic health practices to the children of Kansar village. Reappraisal of women’s health problems was also done for ensuring their physical and mental fitness. Read more
