Roadmap

NIT Rourkela has adopted five villages in the Sundargarh district of Odisha out of which three villages are from Bisra Block namely Jhirpani, Jamsera and Dalposh, one from Nuagaon Block i.e. Mitikundari and the last one is Kansar (Munda Tola) in Lathikata Block. Under the UBA programme, the institute is actively participating as Regional Coordinating Institute (RCI) by using the expertise available to improve the quality of life in these rural areas through innovative and affordable technological interventions. The issues to be addressed in the first phase include-

Improvement in skill development for unemployed youth
Quality of school education
Organic farming
Sanitation
Health care
Awareness towards digital India
Renewable energy use
Basic infrastructure
Self-reliance

Objectives

NIT Rourkela has started its journey with the following objectives:

To identify the issues and needs of the adopted villages by direct interaction and a series of surveys with the common people and the elected representatives of the panchayat.
To formulate the scheme of implementation by involving the innovators, academicians, scientists, NGOs, Governmental agencies, traditional craftsmen, artisans, farmers and active students.
To develop better means to implement technology as per the requirements of the people to uplift their standard of living.
To refine the existing traditional technology available with the villagers to use at high scale with an aim to increase the efficiency.
To train the rural people in the field of technologies and skill development through workshops, short term courses as well with formal and informal interactions from time-to-time
To build up the confidence among villagers by providing the required technical know-how and resources for setting-up of small-scale, self-sustaining industries.
To provide necessary knowledge related to the benefits of plantation, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and environmental friendly techniques.
To take proactive measures to improve the quality of life through basic facilities in villages.
To involve and inspire the student fraternity to work for rural development.
