BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Susovon Samanta was born in Burdwan, West Bengal, completed both his Madhyamik and Hihger Secondary schooling at Burdwan Town School. He completed his BE from REC (now NIT), Durgapur, ME from Jadavpur University and PhD from IIT, Kharagpur. His research interests encompass in diverse applications such as EVs, solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, and space technologies. He secured five sponsored projects as the Principal Investigator (PI) and one as a Co-PI. The cumulative funding secured for these projects is approximately 2.5 crore. These projects have been supported by esteemed government agencies including SERB, DST, ISRO, DRDO, and IMPRINT-IIA. During his doctoral studies, he worked closely with design and application engineers from NSC, USA. After PhD, he started working in the development of MPPT algorithms. The aim was to enhance the efficiency of established algorithms like P&O and InC, and to minimize sensor usage to reduce the cost of photovoltaic systems. He was awarded the esteemed EMR grant from SERB in March 2015. In the same year, he secured two additional sponsored projects, one from ISRO and another from DRDO. The ISRO project culminated in an end-to-end PSpice simulation model of an active clamp forward converter. The DRDO project focused on the development of DC/DC converters and power management algorithms for fuel cell applications. In 2017, he received funding from DST to develop a 2 kW three-port converter integrating PV and Battery for solar inverters. Subsequently, in 2019, he was awarded the prestigious IMPRINT-II project. The primary objective of this project is the design and development of a HESS based EV drivetrain for mid-sized passenger vehicles. His research contributions have resulted in a total of 61 publications, with 22 published in renowned journals and rest are in acclaimed conferences. Among these, 11 have been published in IEEE Journals. The average impact factor of his publications is more than 5.
