BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Soudamini Sahoo joined as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics & Astronomy in April 2023. She completed her master's degree in Physics with electronics specialisation from Ravenshaw University, Cuttack. Then she moved to IISER Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, for a PhD. During PhD (August 2015- July 2021), under the supervision of Prof. Snigdha Thakur and Prof. Sunil P Singh, they studied how simple and complex hydrodynamic environments, such as Newtonian fluid, viscoelastic fluid, and binary mixtures, affected the propulsion dynamics and collective motions of active particles. With the assistance of Prof. Subir K. Das (JNCASR Banglore), she has examined the phase transition kinetics of active colloids in the presence of explicit hydrodynamics. In her Post-doc (May 2021-March 2023 in IIT Palakkad), with Prof. P B Sunil Kumar (IIT Palakkad and IIT Madras) and Prof. Ranjith Padinhateeri (IIT Bombay), they are observing the effect of the dynamic nature of chromatin segments (switching from one epigenetic state to another) on the steady-state chromatin morphology. Her research area is active matter, bio-physics, which are subfields of soft condensed matter. She is continuing research in understanding the collective behaviour of active particles, genome organisation and liquid-liquid phase separation observed in biology.
