BIOGRAPHY
G. Sahoo completed MSc in Chemistry from Utkal University with the Gold medal in 2001. He then moved to IIT Kanpur with GATE qualification (99.37 percentile, AIR-12) for an M.Tech programme in Material Science, but after only two months he switched to National Chemical Laboratory, Pune (India) for a PhD program with CSIR-research fellowship under the supervision of Dr. Mukund K. Gurjar, where he worked in carbohydrate chemistry and natural product synthesis. Thanks to the mighty association of Dr. Gurjar with industries, GS was engaged with several industrial projects during his PhD tenure. After finishing his Ph.D work in 2008, he joined a CRO pharmaceutical industry “Sai Advantium Pharma Limited” as a research scientist and got very valuable experience of applied science for 2 years. He again moved back to academic science in 2011, for a postdoctoral experience in Organocatalysis and Natural Product Synthesis at University of Jyvaskyla, Finland with Prof. Petri M. Pihko. He stayed there for 5 years with two consecutive post-docs with an added shot at computational Chemistry with Prof. Karoliina Honkala. Then he started his independent career as an Assistant Professor at NIT Rourkela in 2016. He enjoys his teaching and his research group works on Organocatalysis, Carbohydrate Chemistry, Natural Product synthesis, Mechanistic Interpretation. To his credit, he has received “R C Tripathy Young Scientist Award” in 2017 from Orissa Chemical Society. At present he works as an Associate Professor at NIT Rourkela. Details of his research group can be accessed at Research Group Webpage: https://gsahoolab.wixsite.com/gslnitr, and Twitter Handle: https://twitter.com/G_Sahoo_Lab
