BIOGRAPHY
Dr Soumyajit Roy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at NIT Rourkela and the Professor-in-Charge of the Welding Shop at the Institute’s Central Workshop. He holds a PhD degree from IIT Kharagpur, an MTech degree from IIT Delhi, and a BTech degree from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. His research focuses on the mathematical modelling of railway catenary and pantograph systems, exploring their coupled dynamics through wave propagation and multibody system approaches. He has also worked on the kinematics of 6DOF Stewart-Gough platforms. His broader research interests include mechanical vibrations, wave propagation in continuous systems, multibody dynamics, and acoustic metamaterials. At present, he has been supervising two doctoral research students and four master's students working on diverse research problems in these areas. Dr Roy has substantial programming expertise in computer algebraic systems such as Wolfram Mathematica and has over a year of teaching experience at reputed institutions, including BITS Pilani, an Institute of Eminence recognised by the Government of India.
