Syllabus
1) Enables the students a comprehensive understanding of the basic laboratory techniques like
chromatography and purification, etc.
2) Students are expected to develop a practical understanding of organic functional groups.
Detection of elements (N,S, Halogen) in organic Compounds, Detection of functional groups: amine,
amide, alcohol, phenol, nitro, carboxylic acid, aldehyde, ketone, unsaturation etc., Derivative
preparation (amide, acid, anilide, ester, picrate, hydrazone, semicarbazone, 2, 4-DNP etc) and
characterization (m.pt. and crystallization).
