Syllabus
MODULE-I (5 hours)
Introduction to sensor networks, Constraints and challenges, Advantage and applications of sensor networks, Enabling technologies for wireless sensor networks.
MODULE-II (8 hours)
Sensor node hardware, Single-node architecture, Operating systems and execution environments, Introduction to Tiny OS and nesC, Network architecture, Design principles for WSNs, Service interfaces of WSNs, Gateway concepts.
MODULE-III (10 hours)
MAC protocol for WSNs, Classification of MAC Protocols, S-MAC protocol, B-MAC protocol, IEEE 802.15.4 standard and Zig Bee, Dissemination protocol for large sensor network.
MODULE-IV (6 hours)
Localization and positioning, Coverage and connectivity, Single-hop and multi-hop localization, self-configuring localization systems, sensor management.
MODULE-V (8 hours)
Classification of routing protocols, Energy-efficient routing, Compression technologies for WSN, Data Aggregation techniques.
Course Objectives
- To obtain a broad understanding of the technologies and applications for the emerging and exciting domain of wireless sensor networks for critical real-time scenarios.
- To study different protocols at different layers and its differences with traditional protocols.
- To design and develop foundational systems software, sensor-actuator-controller algorithms, and network protocols.
- To understand the issues pertaining to sensor networks and the challenges involved in managing a sensor network.
Course Outcomes
CO1: Understand and design sensor node and network architecture. <br />CO2: Determine suitable MAC protocol and radio hardware. <br />CO3: Assess node position and network coverage. <br />CO4: Design a secured, fault-tolerant, energy-efficient routing protocol. <br />CO5: Describe and implement protocols on a sensor testbed network and evaluate the performance.
