Syllabus
Plant tissue culture for production of novel plants and hybrids: tissue culture media, callus and suspension culture, organogenesis, embryogenesis, protoplast culture, anther culture Secondary metabolite production from plant tissue culture Upstream processing: biosynthesis of phytopharmaceuticals, biotransformation using plant tissue culture, selection and screening of cultured plant cells, Plant transformation technology Immobilization and elicitation of plant cells Large scale cultivation of plant cells in bioreactors Metabolic engineering and industrial products: plant secondary metabolites, control mechanisms and manipulation of phenylpropanoid pathway, shikimate pathway, alkaloids, industrial enzymes, bioplastics, PHB, therapeutic proteins, antibiotics, edible vaccines, purification strategies bioseparation Functional foods.

- To enable the students to understand the advances in plant biotechnology.
- To enable the students to gain in-depth knowledge about plant secondary metabolites
