Principles of Stratigraphy Stratigraphic Units Stratigraphic Correlation Geological Time Scale Code of Stratigraphic nomenclature – GSSP and GSSA Concept of Seismic Stratigraphy, Sequence Stratigraphy, Biostratigraphy, Lithostratigraphy, Chemostratigraphy, Magnetostratigraphy, and Chronostratigraphy.
Indian stratigraphy: Precambrian stratigraphy of India Stratigraphy of the Palaeozoic Mesozoic and Cenozoic formations of India – distribution, geological succession, classification, correlation, paleogeography and life of each periods Gondwana Supergroup – distribution, succession, classification, flora and fauna, lower and upper age limit, structure, climate and paleogeography Deccan Traps and associated sedimentary formations Himalayan geology Boundary problems of Archean-Proterozoic, Pre-Cambrian-Cambrian, Permo-Triassic, Mesozoic –Tertiary.

Course Objectives

  • To study the basic principles of stratigraphy and its different parameters.
  • Extensive idea about the concept of strata and its deposition along a particular period.
