Syllabus

The destructive and non-destructive analytical techniques in Geology The working principle of Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), X-ray Diffraction (XRD) Optical spectrometry - Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), Atomic emission spectroscopy (AES), Mass spectrometry - Inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy (ICPMS), Raman spectrometry Chromatography Accuracy and Precision of Data International reference materials/ standards Sample preparation and analysis using the above instruments.

Course Objectives

  • To understand the working principle of different instruments used in Geosciences.

Broad idea about the instruments used in Geosciences and its applications.
