Syllabus
List of Experiments:
1. Study of magnetization characteristics of a separately excited dc generator.
2. Study of Speed control of a dc series motor.
3. Retardation test on dc shunt motor.
4. Swinburne’s test on a dc shunt machine.
5. Open circuit and short circuit tests on a single phase transformer and determination of equivalent circuit parameters.
6. Determination of efficiency and percentage regulation of two identical transformers by back to back test at different load and power factor.
7. Load test on dc shunt motor.
8. Three phase transformer winding connections.
9. Load test on single phase transformer to determine efficiency and voltage regulation.
10. Scott connection and verification

Course Objectives
- Understand the working of DC machines and Transformers
- To acquire practical knowledge to obtain the various parameters of DC machines and Transformers
Course Outcomes
At the end of the course, the student will be able to <br /> <br />1. Identify relevant information to supplement to the Electric Machine I (EE2001) course. <br />2. Set up testing strategies and select proper instruments to evaluate performance characteristics of electrical machines (both ac and dc. <br />3. Develop testing and experimental procedures on different types of electrical machines and Analyze their operation under different loading conditions. <br />4. Practice different types of wiring and devices connections keeping in mind technical, economical, safety issues. <br />5. Evaluate possible causes of discrepancies in practical experimental observations in comparison to theory. <br />6. Prepare professional quality textual and graphical presentations of laboratory data and computational results, incorporating accepted data analysis and synthesis methods, mathematical software, and word-processing tools.
