BASIC INFORMATION

  • Make & Model : START D Microwave Digestion System, Milestone
  • Department : Civil Engineering
  • Location : Environmental Engineering Laboratory
  • Category : Category - III
  • Status : Functional

PRINCIPLE:

Performance capabilities in closed vessel microwave digestion. The TWISTER offers an increased safety of operation, as the operator is not exposed to acid vapors as the vessels are opened. The START D Microwave Digestion System operates based on the principle of microwave-assisted digestion: Microwave energy is applied to the sample, rapidly increasing the temperature and pressure inside the digestion vessel. The combination of high temperature, pressure, and microwave radiation facilitates the breakdown of complex sample matrices, allowing the release of analytes (e.g., metals, organic compounds) into the solvent. The digestion process is closed-vessel, meaning the sample is digested in a sealed vessel, preventing the loss of volatile substances and ensuring a safe, controlled environment.

APPLICATION:

Sludge, solid, etc digestion Environmental Testing:Soil, water, and sediment samples are digested for heavy metals and other contaminants (e.g., mercury, lead, cadmium). Ideal for ICP-MS or ICP-OES analysis. Food and Agriculture:Used for the digestion of food (e.g., meat, vegetables) to determine contaminants like pesticides, heavy metals, and nutrients. Animal feed and plant tissue digestion for nutritional and contaminant analysis. Pharmaceuticals: Digestion of pharmaceutical raw materials, formulations, and biological tissues for drug content analysis or contamination testing. Forensic Science: Digestion of biological samples (e.g., blood, urine) for toxicology analysis, including drug testing and toxin detection. Petrochemical Industry :Digestion of oil samples, greases, and polymers for analysis of metals and organic compounds. Material Science: Used to digest solid polymers or other materials for the analysis of inorganic components or trace metals.
