BASIC INFORMATION

  • Make & Model : Kruss DSA 25
  • Department : Biotechnology and Medical Engineering
  • Location : Room No.: BM 217
  • Category : Category - III
  • Status : Functional

PRINCIPLE:

The Drop Shape Analyzer (DSA 25) measures the contact angle of a droplet placed on a solid surface. Contact angle is the angle formed between the surface of the material and the tangent to the droplet at the point of contact. A goniometer setup is used to capture high-resolution images of the droplets shape. The system uses optical analysis to determine how a liquid adheres to a solid, which is a key indicator of surface energy.

APPLICATION:

Surface Energy Measurement: Used in coatings, printing, adhesives, and material science. Wetability Studies: Key for evaluating the performance of textiles, films, and surfaces like polymers or metals in coatings. Biomaterials: Analyzing the behavior of liquids on medical devices or biological materials. Quality Control and Research: In research labs to understand interactions between liquids and surfaces, especially in fields such as coatings, microelectronics, and sensor development.
