BASIC INFORMATION

  • Make & Model : IKA, RV-10
  • Department : Life Science
  • Location : MN-340
  • Category : Category - III
  • Status : Functional

PRINCIPLE:

A typical rotary evaporator has a water bath that can be heated in either a metal container or crystallization dish. This keeps the solvent from freezing during the evaporation process. The solvent is removed under vacuum, is trapped by a condenser and is collected for easy reuse.

APPLICATION:

The primary use of a roto is to dry and purify samples for downstream applications. Its speed and ability to handle large volumes of solvent make rotary evaporation a preferred method of solvent removal in many laboratories, especially in instances involving low boiling point solvents
