Faculty Profile

BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Nilay Maji is an experimental condensed matter physicist and a faculty member in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, India. His academic journey began with a B.Sc. in Physics (Honours) from Scottish Church College, Kolkata, followed by an M.Sc. from IIT Madras. He further advanced his expertise with an M.Tech. in Solid State Technology from IIT Kharagpur and culminated in a Ph.D. in Spintronics, also from IIT Kharagpur. His academic journey took him from the hallowed halls of these prestigious institutions to a postdoctoral stint at the National University of Singapore and the DAE Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata. Dr. Maji's research is at the forefront of spintronics, where he dives into the complexities of electrical spin injection from ferromagnets into semiconductors. His work sheds light on tunnel magneto-resistance (TMR) for memory devices and explores the fascinating realm of 2D van der Waals heterostructures for spintronic applications. With a keen eye for innovation and a passion for pushing the envelope, Dr. Maji is actively driving progress in the field, unraveling new possibilities and setting the stage for future breakthroughs.
