BIOGRAPHY

My research interests include AI, Video and Image Analysis, and Information Forensics & Security. I received my B.E. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from B.V. Bhoomaraddi College of Engineering and Technology (BVBCET), Hubli, Karnataka, in 2002, M.Tech. in the specialization of Automation and Computer Vision from IIT Kharagpur in 2006 and Ph.D. in the specialization of Computer Vision and Image Processing from Dept. of Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering, IIT Kharagpur, in 2014. I have held faculty positions with the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal and BVBCET, Hubli, before joining NIT Rourkela. I am holding/held several important administrative positions at NIT Rourkela: Associate DEAN (Faculty Welfare), HOD-Computer Centre, Hostel Warden, Convocation Anchor, Convener of Venue committee of Convocation, Prof-in-charge of student activities for research scholars, faculty advisor, etc. Having been the anchor of the 18th Annual Convocation in March 2021 with Hon’ble President of India Shri. Ram Nath Kovind ji, as Chief Guest, is a feather on my cap. I am the recipient of IBM’s ‘The Great Mind Challenge Award’ for mentoring a student project in 2008, the Microsoft India Research Travel Grant Award for my visit to Melbourne, Australia, in 2012, Early Career Research Award from SERB in 2016, 3 best paper awards for my students work at IEEE Techsym, 2014 and ICORT, DRDO, 2019 and 2021 conferences. I have been a member of the high-level Indian delegation supported by MHRD, India, which visited Tokyo, Japan, as part of the Sakura Science Exchange Program in Jan. 2020, and also a member of the Indian Delegation, which visited the United Kingdom in 2023 as part of the Gender Advancement for Transforming Institutions (GATI) programme of DST.
