BIOGRAPHY
Prof Shantanu K Behera received his bachelor’s degree in Ceramic Engineering from NIT Rourkela. After a few years of working in the industries, he pursued his doctoral studies in Materials Science and Engineering at Lehigh University (Bethlehem, USA) under the tutelage of Prof Martin Harmer. He used electron microscopy at Lehigh and x-ray absorption spectroscopy at the Brookhaven National Laboratory (Upton, USA) to characterize the structural features of dopants in alumina grain boundaries. Subsequently, he joined Prof Rishi Raj’s group in the Dept of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Colorado (Boulder, USA) and worked on polymer derived ceramics for his postdoctoral research. In 2011, he joined the Department of Ceramic Engineering at NIT Rourkela as a faculty member. Currently he serves as a Professor of Ceramic Engineering. and Associate Dean of Sponsored Research. Prof Behera’s research mostly focuses on the development of unique microstructures of ceramic materials and hybrids of oxide, oxycarbide, and carbides from the preceramic polymer route for functional applications, including electrodes for supercapacitors and lithium ion batteries. He also collaborates with his colleagues on novel processing methods for the development of tough and strong ceramic and polymer composites. He is a Fulbright A&P Excellence Scholar and features in the Stanford-Elsevier Top Scientists List.
