BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Balasubramanian Paramasivan is serving as an Associate Professor in the Department of Biotechnology & Medical Engineering at the National Institute of Technology Rourkela, India since April 2014. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Environmental Biotechnology from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, where his research focused on biotrickling filtration as a treatment technology for remediating volatile organic pollutants from industrial wastewaters and emissions. With over 10 years of teaching and research experience in Environmental Biotechnology, he specializes in applying biotechniques in energy and environmental management. His research interests encompass bioenergy, environmental engineering and management, rural technologies, and sustainable development. He has authored 25 book chapters and published over 100 peer-reviewed articles. He has been invited to attend the SAARC Invitation Program of Science and Technological Human Resources under the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youth Programme in 2011, as well as the 2nd BRICS Young Scientist Conclave held in Hangzhou, China in 2017, and the SERB SIRE fellowship in 2022. He has contributed to several research projects funded by prestigious organizations such as DST-WTI, DST-TDP, AISDF of DST-SERB, DBT-BIG BIRAC Grant, and ECR of DST-SERB, with a focus on wastewater treatment, biofertilizer production, and sustainable agricultural practices. He has received prestigious awards including the Hiyoshi Young Leaf Environmental Award and NESA Green Technologists award. He actively engages in conferences and research collaborations, working towards addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable solutions.
