Definition of human anatomy and physiology, anatomical terms and planes Skeletal system: Classification of bones, joints and muscles, major muscles of limbs and their actions. Functional concept of the human body, bone and muscle physiology Cardio Vascular System: Structure & function of Heart & blood vessels, Special functional tissue of heart, E. C. G., Cardiac cycle, Blood – composition, function, blood group, blood clotting, blood pressureregulation & controlling factors Respiratory system: Upper and lower respiratory tract, Structure and Function of respiratory membrane, Pulmonary circulation, Mechanics of breathing, Transport and control of gases, Lungs volume and capacities, Regulation of respiration, Pulmonary function tests Nervous system & special senses: Brain and spinal cord, peripheral autonomic nervous system, nerve physiology, EEG, MEG & ECG Eye & ear Endocrine Glands: types, location, description and functions Digestive system: Parts of digestive system, Gastrointestinal tract and associated glands Urinary system: Parts and function of urinary system Male and female reproductive system and Lymphatic system: Spleen, glands and lymph nodes.

Course Objectives

  • To understand the gross anatomy and physiology of human body
  • To understand the concepts of engineering principles that can be applied or derived from anatomy and physiology of human body

Course Outcomes

The students will be able to <br />1. Understand the gross anatomy, radiological anatomy and tissue histology in human body <br />2. Learn system wise physiology of human body <br />3. Understand the various physiological processes that maintain homeostasis of human body system <br />4. Correlate the anatomy and physiology of the human system with diseases <br />5. Gain an insight to apply the knowledge in engineering processes or computational modelling.
