Syllabus

Solar Photovoltaic systems: Simulation of a solar panel at various level of insolation and temperature and plot the VI characteristics, Estimation of PV characteristics of a solar panel, Simulation of P&O MPPT technique for PV module, Simulation of Incremental Conductance (I&C) MPPT technique for PV module, Measurement of V-I characteristics of a solar panel at various levels of insolation, and the identification of the equivalent circuit parameters. Wind Energy Systems: Simulation and modelling of wind turbine, Simulation of wind turbine emulator using DC motor, Study of voltage build up process of Self-Excited Induction Generator, Voltage and frequency control of Self-Excited Slip-Ring Induction Generator, Study of load characteristics of permanent magnet synchronous generator.

Course Objectives

  • To prepare the student to learn the principles of operation, simulation and design procedures of MPPT techniques for PV system.
  • To prepare the student to become proficient with computer skills (e.g., PSPICE and MATLAB) for the simulated analysis and design of wind systems

Course Outcomes

1. Able to simulate wind and PV systems in MATLAB SIMULINK <br />2. Able to conduct experiments on PV module to find the output characteristics. <br />3. Able to perform test on induction generators and PMSG.
