Syllabus

Calibration of Instruments: calibration of voltmeter using another meter with higher accuracy, finding point accuracy, calculate the linearity, sensitivity. Calibration of a UPF wattmeter using a high accuracy ammeter and voltmeter. Calibration of single phase digital energy meter at different loads Measurement of passive components: Resistance, capacitance, and inductance using bridges. Transducers: Synchro, temperature measurement using LM35 and thermistor, Force measurement using strain gauge, current measurement using hall effect sensor. Virtual Instrumentation: Measurement of single-phase active and reactive powers, power factor, biomedical instrumentation, obtaining the symmetrical component of a three-phase signal, Harmonic Analysis, Measurement of current, voltage and power from a solar panel, Measurement of displacement using LVDT, Measurement of angular speed and angular position for a dc motor.

  1. Comprehend the method of calibrating instruments
  2. Understand about the method of data acquisition
  3. To understand the working and applications of various transducers

Course Outcomes

At the end of the course, the student will be able to
1 Understand virtual instrumentation and program the data acquisition devices as per the requirement
2 Choose a proper transducer based on their characteristics for measurement of different parameters.
3 Calibrate instruments and find various static characteristics
