Syllabus

DC Machines: Study of magnetization characteristics of a separately excited dc generator, Study of Speed control of a dc series motor, Retardation test on dc shunt motor, Swinburne’s test on a dc shunt machine, Load test on dc shunt motor, Transformers: Open circuit and short circuit tests on a single phase transformer and determination of equivalent circuit parameters, Determination of efficiency and percentage regulation of two identical transformers by back to back test at different load and power factor, Three phase transformer winding connections, Load test on single phase transformer to determine efficiency and voltage regulation, Parallel operation of two single phase transformers, Three-phase to two-phase conversion of transformer.

Course Objectives

  1. Understand the working of DC machines and Transformers
  2. To acquire practical knowledge to obtain the various parameters of DC machines and Transformers

Course Outcomes

At the end of the course, the student will be able to
1 understand the methods for testing DC machines and Transformers
2 perform the parallel operation of transformers and dc machines
