Wind Energy Systems: Study of voltage build-up process of self-excited induction generator, Study of the load characteristics of an self-excited induction generator, Study of voltage and frequency control of self-excited slip ring induction generator, Study of load characteristics of PMSG and to determine the equivalent circuit parameters, Closed loop control of a separately-excited DC motor imitating the characteristics of wind turbine. Solar Photovoltaic systems: Measurement of V-I characteristics of a solar panel at various levels of insolation, and the identification of the equivalent circuit parameters, Study of stand-alone PV system with DC, AC load and battery and its power flow calculations, Study of series parallel connection of solar panel and the effect of shading, Study of P&O MPPT technique of PV module, Study of I&C MPPT technique of PV module, To study the charging and discharging characteristics of the battery.

Course Objectives

  1. To prepare the student to become proficient with computer skills (e.g., PSPICE and MATLAB) for the simulated analysis and design of wind and PV systems
  2. Understand the working of all types of wind generators.

Course Outcomes

1. Able to conduct experiments on PV module to find the output characteristics and MPPT Techniques.
2. Able to perform test on induction generators and PMSG.
