Switching devices - ideal and real characteristics, control, drive and protection. Reactive circuit elements - their selection and design. Switching power converters - circuit topology, operation, steady-state model, dynamic model. Analysis, modeling and performance functions of switching power converters. Review of linear control theory. Closed-loop control of switching power converters. Simple designs and construction projects.

Course Objectives

  1. Comprehend the design and analysis of switched mode power conversion circuits.

Course Outcomes

1. Know the Ideal/real characteristics of Power electronic switching devices,
2. Design of driver circuits with the proper isolation of power electronic devices from the main power supply.
3. Design a closed-loop control of switching power converters to study the steady-state, dynamic performance
4. Model and develop switching power converters topologies.
