Syllabus

Induction machines: Determination of equivalent circuit parameters of 3-phase induction motor and study of circle diagram, load test on three phase induction motor, load test on three phase induction generator, speed control of three-phase slip ring induction motor at variable load condition, no load test and blocked rotor test on a single phase induction motor. Synchronous machines: Determination of regulation of three phase alternator by synchronous impedance method, synchronization of three phase alternator with the infinite bus, V curves and inverted V curves of the synchronous motor, determination of Xd, Xq and regulation of salient pole alternator, power angle characteristic of the synchronous machine.

Course Objectives

  1. Understand the working of Induction machines and Synchronous machines
  2. To acquire practical knowledge to obtain the various parameters of Synchronous machines and Induction machines.

Course Outcomes

At the end of the course, the student will be able to

1 understand the methods for testing Induction machine and Synchronous Machine
2 understand the behavior of an alternator connected to the infinite bus in power systems
