Deterministic and non-deterministic process, stochastic and probabilistic process. Data and its various attributes, non-stationarity in data, Data capture (analogue and digital), design of experiments, Determination of various data statistics including mean mode variance co-variance confidence intervall various distributions (Gaussian and others) statistical inference estimation, correlation and regression analysis Hypothes is testing chi-square distribution precision and accuracy, Data preprocessing including outlier detection techniques filtering and smoothening, error analysis, Application of univariate and multivariate statistics like SPC charts, Principal component analysis, Partial least squares, Linear discriminant analysis and clustering in data based model development. Merits and demerits of data based models. Applicability of the data based models in model reconciliation and model order reduction, product quality monitoring, and fault detection.

Course Objectives

  1. To enable the students to learn about Design of experiments followed by data generation.
  2. To enable the students to learn about Data Pre-processing Techniques and efficient display of data
  3. To enable the students to learn about Statistical interpretation of data and its requirement. To enable the students to use the modern statistical tool for analysis of data.
  4. Introduction to multivariate statistical techniques in data based modelling.

Course Outcomes

1. To enable the students to understand the Statistical interpretation and analysis of data around them and the art of effective display of data.
2. To enable the students to pre-proces and extract meaningful information from generated data.
3. Make the students confident to use DESIGN EXPERT, MATLAB and STATISTICA softwares in handling data based domain.
